Study - Correlation and Scatterplots

Context & Inspiration → What is the relationship between $R^2$ and the expressed aha-its-correlated visually to humans?

Participants →

Stimuli →

• Participants look at 10 correlation charts, without very reduced annotations, and then have to press one of two buttons YES or NO.

Method →

1. For each chart / stimulus
   • We compute the mean of the response (0 for No, 1 for Yes) ā
   • We compute the true Pearson’s correlation coefficient r
2. We take all the (ā, r) pairs and compute the correlation on them

Note: This could have a recursive effect that could be intended by the authors of the study (me). Perhaps it is worth thinking about the p-value process and what is required in establishing a credible result, and then going from there.
